Our Part
Running a business without waste is a serious challenge in todays world but here at Wild Orange Tree HQ, we are trying our very best to play our part in helping the planet. We don't want to know that our products or parts of our process are ending up in landfill, it's absolutely heartbreaking. To keep things as transparent as possible for you to have peace of mind when investing in us, here's a list of products that we use. Please understand we can't mention brand names or suppliers as that's too much information.
PRODUCTS
Cardigans - All Crochet pieces are from 100% cotton.
Scrap Rugs / Patchwork Clothing / Scrunchies - All these pieces are made from factory waste and made from a complete mix of fibers. We stock these to encourage a no waste environment. The rugs can be a mixture of jute, cotton or acrylic and the patchwork clothing is typically made from recycled rayon, all materials are listed in the care labels attached to each piece.
Stickers - We now stock stickers to the website, yes!! These stickers are made from 95% sugar cane fibre and 5% of hemp and linen. They are 100% recyclable when you decide to discard of them.
Vintage Knitwear & Throws - These pieces take a long time to source. Each item is second hand and selling them to you to love saves them from landfill! We don't always know the materials but knowing that they have a new lease of life in your hands, changes so much!
SHIPPING
Parcel Bags - Our Parcel bags are made from low density recycled plastic and are 100% recyclable (Changing this up is number 1 on the list but we ordered so many of these that they must be used first, we will eventually move to compostable or cardboard mailing bags).
Thank you Tags - We Use brown kraft paper to write the thank you note on which we tie to your order with Manilla String. Manilla is made from manilla hemp which is a fibre that comes from the leaves of the abaca.
Shipping Labels - We recently invested in a thermal printer to limit how much we use ink. Although we absolutely loved handwriting all address labels, this is a much quicker and much more environmentally friendly alternative. Thermal printers use absolutely no ink, yey!
Ink - Sourcing sustainable ink (to write our thank you notes) is a minefield but like the parcel bags, we couldn't find a good switch at the time and when our current stock is up, we will be switching to an eco friendly ink (probably vegetable or soy based).
T-shirts -
We work closely with our suppliers to source only the best raw materials, grown or produced in ways that do not harm people, animals or the environment. We exclusively use 100% GOTS certified organic cotton from India, recycled polyester from China and other sustainable materials such as Modal®. Our supply chain is certified by various independent bodies and standards.
We are and always will be open to talking about how to improve and how to get better, at the end of the day, we are all still learning, even businesses so please be kind :) Thank you!
